Where it went is easy enough as a the dispersal ledgers still exist and have been copied into the public domain. Where it all went after that is another matter - most was sent for scrap during WWII - hard to believe though it is now.

Difficult isn't it. In WWII when all our existence was under threat then essential scrap metal was vital. Melting down thousands of captured enemy MGs was probably not a difficult choice then. I know it is not the same but the millions of churches in UK who still do not have their original hundred year old plus iron railings/gates etc due to the war effort is amazing and still highly visible.
I do not all the details but Australia disposing of lots of historical weapons into the sea AFTER WWII is perhaps another story!!
