When I get back to the office tomorrow I’ll do a mock sketch to get an idea on price.
Just the approximate amount of holes, length, etc. That would at least tell us if it’s worth proceeding with a real drawing

If you could tell me the metal thickness and the diameter of the holes, that would be enough to start.
OK, sorry for the delay. I'm not a machinist and not sure these numbers are correct but this is what I came up with:
    Hole Dia = .234 / 15/64"
    Metal stock thickness = 0.02"

I'm also going to try asking someone with an actual adapter if they'd be willing to take measurements also.

Thanks for your help and interest -
    Dick

    edit: 15/64 (not 15/16) geez

Unfortunately, the only steel they have that thin is mild steel -- and even then, it's .03" thick, not .02"

That said, based on my rough sketch (2.5" wide, 12.5" long, with 76 evenly spaced .234" holes), the price would be about $12.

Crappy steel that's the wrong thickness but pretty cheap as a stop-gap if needed!

Thanks so much for your help. The concept sounds interesting an for $12 it might be worth a try if you don't mind. If it comes close to looking right maybe whatever might be required to fit it would be worth the effort until something else shows up. What do you think? Let me know what I need to do next.

I'm going to make a pattern based on what your L&W dimensions just to see how it might look.

    I'll check back later...

Note the correction on the hole diameter on my measurements above. They measure - .234 or 15/64" is correct - ( not 15/16 where I came up with that I have no idea)

    DISASSEMBLY

Decided to disassemble the barrel and mag tube for inspecting and cleaning. The mag spring has some rust and should be replaced. Tube and follower OK.
The slide sleeve cap apparently had some strange, sloppy work on it and I wonder if anyone can shed some light on what and why -

That’s weird the way it’s cut. While you have it apart put a 6 round kit in it. Just looked on eBay but didn’t see one. You might try GPC.

I'm leaning more to converting it now to a trench but I still need a heat shield somewhere for the bayonet adapter. One might be able to made but it's probably going to take a while either way to make one or find a compete assembly already made up.
Meantime I can't understand what someone was up to with that sleeve cap....

If you’re interested in proceeding with the laser cut heat shield, I’ll need the remaining stub in hand to make a more accurate drawing.

I'd like to give a try but wondering how we would measure and reproduce the rear part of the shield that's flared out - all I have is 5-1/2" of the forward portion.

PM your address to me and I'll mail it to you -

Should be a learning experience for all of us!
Once I have the shield-stub in hand and get precise dimensions, I should be able to scaled off of pictures on the internet for the flared end.

It won't be perfect, and forming the round shape from the laser cut flat won't be easy, but it'll be interesting!

I'm happy to lend a hand on an interesting project like this!

    PM sent.
    -Ryan
