Got some parts from Springfield Sporters today and it at least looks complete now minus the hand guard. I bought a normal front band, cut off the rear half and installed it with a new bayonet lug. I still need to do some work to get the sling swivel on it.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Just in case you didn't know that star marking on the stock is a Italianicon Refurbishment marking. I have seen them on other Carcanos as well as even a Steyr M95.

Well. it's four and a half years later and I found one of my missing parts. I received the sling swivel yesterday from a guy that actually knew what it was. No word on the front band or how it got separated from it. Took it down from where it's been hanging on my den ceiling, modified the front band yet again and it looks great, and it now has a proper sling.

No progress on the hand guard or front band.

As you can see, the modified front band works perfectly as it is now. The correct one does not have the step at the top. It is a continuous rounded shape with smooth sides. The hand guard then fits under it.

My possibilities at this point are to cut this one apart and weld another rounded piece of metal to it and hand make a hand guard or just keep patiently watching for originals. I'm not going to cut this one until I have a handguard either original or reproduced.
