I suppose I'll start a thread for each of these 3 shotguns so we don't get confused.
the barrel I was talking about above with slightly overclocked extension I think is an easy fix. with it of, I can feel the ridge of pushed up metal on the shoulder with my thumb. I think if I just lightly peen it back down, it'll snug up perfect. I say this after feeling how "tight" the damaged extension was on the other 97 that came in when I took it off last night. No trouble at all.

And just gentle. I'll bet you're right. It should never wear down because it's been 80 years in some cases that these guns have been in almost constant use.
