Bored With This Board
Okay, I wished for a modern format for the carbine forum for years, and now we have it. So, why is it not as fun as the old board? Has anyone else felt this way? The old forum was like a wild west saloon, where you bellied-up to the bar and took your chances. You could count on some hothead starting a fight, and the chairs and bottles started flying. This is like being in church with a hangover. I don't think I've seen anything really interesting since it started. It's been so long since I checked in that it took me five tries to get my name and password right (I just ran a cleaner today which deleted all the cookies). I used to hit the old forum several times a day. Remember 'It's a fake'? What's a saloon without a character like 'Seth'?

CSP guys - what's the problem?
I can't figure it out myself other than it's not as familiar. Same group of great people and a modern web site format that runs much faster. Have fun and post away!

I've got to agree that while I appreciate the civility of the nerw CSP boards I sometimes miss the anarchy of the old. Maybe it's just going to take time for more of the regulars to migrate here. One used to see Gus Fisher post quite often and there used to be many more WTS on the old boards.
Maybe not as exciting as it once was but still an excellent source of knowledge. I'd like to see serial # threads for all makes of M1 Carbines that include the barrel info, maybe same for Garands, and 03's as well.
Let's give it some more time, it will come around.

I think the collector breed is dying out. The new ,younger generation is all about the AR platform. Parts are still cheap for those guns and plentiful. Our beloved M1 Carbine has fallen prey to the gougers and humpers and people are willing to change an upgraded version back to the old version, sell for a profit to the unknowing and when they find out,it turns them off. Just look at the barrel bands and flip sights that turn up everyday.

One thought on why it may not be as exciting for some folks anymore is that many of you have been collecting carbines for a long time and not too many things come up that are new or interesting or contain new knowledge for you anymore. I find this to be the case with me where I don't frequent some forums as much as I used to with some guns and topics. Anyway, just a thought, Ray

My observation is that all the gun boards I am visiting seem to be slowly dying - unless its to complain about lack of ammo, gunpowder or primers. Gunshows seem to be full of people focused on stocking up with "something, anything, hey what is that???". Few people are going to the range, making slow and thoughtful purchases or are focused on investment with certain pieces. Its all "now, now, stock-up, stock-up, horde, horde". I think this is somehow draining from the collector side of gunownership. GB and AA prices for carbines (and all guns) seem to be highly inflated. What is available is not worth the price that some humpers want. The demand for anything military has CMP so busy that they are 3 months behind on firearms and 6 months behind on ammo. Oh, and don't forget the impact of all the new fake parts and CC tools which has everyone just a little bit more suspicious of what is out there to collect.
This forum switched over in the middle of all of the "crisis" build-up. There isn't as much trading going on cause these negative market forces. I don't think collecting is dying, but right now its hard to add to collections when a Inland mixmaster is going for $1,200 (yep, thats what the price tag said) in a local gunshop the other day and a recent CMP purchase is up for resale on GB for $800. My next addition is on the waiting list at CMP, so I have nothing new to chat about until late June (???) when it gets here.
Of course, I will be glad to be my usual smarta$$ self if anyone wants to read some obnoxious posts!

Forum fatigue ?? Not for me.
Hi guys. Ray is probably on the money. When I started with carbines several years ago, I could barely field strip and clean the Underwood I have owned for 30 plus years. I didn't know that that "thing" which went into the recoil spring was called nor that it was a great tool. Thanks to Brian, Loren and others on this forum, I can now change out and then index a new barrel, change out front and rear sights, replace all bolt parts and trigger housing parts etc etc.
So the basics that so many new owners need to know, I have learned and therefore have fewer questions than early on. This is probably the case for many other once "new" owners. As to missing the controversy which sometimes emerged, I don't need that and am glad to see it go West. I enjoy this group and thank each of you who have been so helpful in my education.
Let's all continue to make this an interesting in informative gathering place. Good shooting.
Best to all.
