There was a Peanuts cartoon filmed with Snoopy and the Red Baron, the kids touring Europe and Linus reads, In Flander's Fields...it was very touching and done at a time when people still respected the country, our allies and what was given up by so many.
Just watched Hallowed Ground on PBS which included a visit to Flanders American Military Cemetery. I was touched by the reverence that the Belgian people showed to the Americans buried there.
The poem is recited at every Remembrance Day service every November 11th in Canada. It is still taught in schools.
The concrete bunker where McRae treated battle casualties is still there.
Incidentally, he did not really care for the poem, and discarded it. It was recovered and preserved.
