I was just eight when I was first introduced to these things, I remember being passed up into the belly turret of a Lancaster by my father, but I had left my box brownie on the ground.
But the thrill is still there, the roar of V12's today over my house as a Kittyhawk and Spitfire tore up the sky......love it here(might move closer to the strip though) but get very little work done some days.
Just a heads up, the twin seater Spittie being assembled at Duxford for the boys here should be shipped to Scone shortly.....and hiding in the rebuild hanger is a Sea Fury.....being worked on as I type.

The Sea Fury is a fabulous aeroplane. The 18 cylinder radial is a piece of engineering art!

What's the story with the BF 109, i.e. how did it end up in Australia

Its not a real 109, its a mock up replica, and a poor one at that.
However, the genuine Bf109G that is on display in the Australian
War Memorial Museum in Canberra is very special, in that its the only surviving example that is still wearing its original wartime German
applied paint and markings.
Just the thing for putting round holes in square heads.

GeeRam is correct, it is a fiberglass mock up made for the BiCentennial in 1988, it was housed at Richmond, but now they are looking for somewhere to dump it.
I did hear a rumour that the one held at the War Museum has been blue printed , just waiting for someone with deep pockets to take on the task.
VFR or Caboolture are the likely sites, but Scone has a dozen projects on the go as it is.

There are also reports/rumours that Wayne Dawson has the remains of Bf109 G-2 that was recovered from a crash site in Russia
, in storage somewhere in New South Wales.
