(M1 Garand/M14/M1A Rifles)
Nice day at the range
I'm on vacation this week so there was time to drive the two hour round trip to the range. I went to plink with my wife and to function test and battle sight my 5 Mil. Garand
and Ruger 10/22, both new to me. Both shot well - better than me, probably. I'm rusty after years of mostly pistol. The Garand shot five clips (forty rounds) of 1960s Lake City M2 ammo nearly flawlessly. There was one failure to feed - probably caused by a little corrosion on a case. I also discovered that this rifle prefers for the ammo to be stacked "high right" in the clip. Some don't have a preference - this one does. I had to re-stack one clip to get it to feed at all. Oh, and like so many other Garands, this rifle wants a very light forward tap on the op-rod handle to chamber the first round.
But what is it they say? This thread is worthless without pictures! Okay.
Setting up and adjusting the 1905 sling for a hasty sling:

Fiddling with bifocals, taking the shot:

4" bull, 25 yards, fore end on the cradle. First two shots were in the center ring. Beginner's luck? The rest was a study in over-correction:

Ruger 10/22, fore end on cradle, Aguilla Super Extra 38 grain hollow point, battle sighting for 200 yards at 25 yards, grid squares are 1/2", point of aim is bottom of silhouette, 1.25" above bottom line is goal:

Site still needs a tweak. As expected, the stock Ruger open sites were pretty hard to work with. I'll be adding Tech Sights aperture sites to the rifle.
But overall, the weather was great, my wife was great and patient company and worked the binoculars to call my shots, and I had a ball!
