His all correct "S" on the butt for Savage is for "Short" size. The stamp on the front of the barrel ain't army. I don't see any markings on the bayonet, let alone the Savage "S" to show it's a Savage bayonet.

I hate to be picky but it appears to be a No4 Mk2* bayonet (socket and blade made in 2 parts) which were not made in North America. Savage in the US and Long Branch in Canada only made the No4 Mk2 version.

Just stating facts... There are a couple of mistakes on his details.

And the woodwork appears to be beech. To the best of my knowledge Savage only used their characteristically stained birch on their No4's (& allegedly some walnut on early rifles, though I've not come across any to date).

To be fair, the rifle looks a reasonable example that has been through the mill somewhat, like most of them that saw some service. I'd give it house room, so long as it came at the right price!

Absolutely Roger, clearly replacement beech, but nicely done and finished.

Imported to the US pre 68, primer erosion on the bolt face suggests barrel has some not inconsiderable use ... Assuming it's the original bolt head of course.

Nice looking Savage, no more original than triggers broom, but an attractive No4 non the less, like Roger, I would give her gunsafe room.

Possibly a restocked sporter? Many imported pre '68 were butchered. Surplused in England with British commercial proofs on the barrel. Is that remnants of Suncorite on the metal or an attempt at cold bluing? Original Dulite didn't hold up that well. I bet the front handguard has a CE1967 stamp on the metal cap. I've seen so much of that South African contact replacement beech in recent years. That being said, it's probably a great shooter if the barrel and bolt are in spec. and forend fitted correctly.

What fun we would have in the UK with a dealer making so many false claims (false advertising) - he is even selling it as a No4 Mk1 when the photos & markings clearly show it is a Mk1*
