    Visit to Peterson's in Albuquerque

    To the list:

I went down to ABQ for the Memorial Day weekend - I had a race there at Duke City BMX. My former home track. Anyway I got a chance to drop into Ron Peterson's shop on Central after the Saturday race.

He has 6 or 7 good-looking '03 Springfields, all under $1,000. $799 seems to be his favorite price. I didn't have time to go over them too much but they looked good, a mix of Springfield and RIA double-heat treated high number rifles. And a lonely 03-A3. He occasionally gets in a National Match rifle. Of course, make certain the rifle is "correct."

There was a whole wall of black powder arms, including a couple Dutch Beaumonts, a Vitterli, a few plains rifles - real ones, not copies - and some nice rolling blocks. No prices, looks like he bought a collection.

What I was looking for was a 7m mag. , I may do the Elk hunt in open country this year. The best one he had was a nice vintage Interarms commercial Mauser with a walnut stock and a steel-tube Redfield 3x9 for $395. I took a pass, may regret it.

Peterson's is a place where you can get a super deal if you know what you're doing, or get beat up if you don't. He's always got something interesting on open shelf.

BTW Peterson is rationing ammo and component sales to customers, with apologies.
