ZF4 scope calibration for which 8mm ammo

Does anyone know what particular loading of 8 mm ammo the ZF4 scope for the G 43/K 43 rifles was calibrated for? Was it 198 grain bullet at a particular velocity or was it something different? I’d like to try and duplicate the loading so the scope calibration matches my bullet weight and velocity for all the various ranges on the BDC adjuster knob

The 198 ammo was out of service by then , replaced by the 178 SMK type ammo . The SMK was made to be close to the 198 sight settings so the older 198 sights could still be used .

I would say the standard 7.92x57 Mauser S.m.E military ball ammo introduced in 1940 to save on materials after the war had started. The S.m.E round had a mild steel core, lead jacket round which was 178grn. After 1943, this round was further re-designed and designated S.m.E.lg by further reducing the amount of lead, resulting in a longer projectile of 39.8mm to maintain the 178grn weight.

I doubt the scoped G43's users got issued with the special sniper ammo that the scoped K98k snipers got issued with.

I have some PRVI 175 FMJs I could use. I also have a 175 gr bullet mold I plan on trying at some point. Will do initial testing with those in the K98K. Those won’t be terribly fast.

Out of a K98k, muzzle v and e about 2600 fps and 2600 ft.lbs.
