    The rifle is admittedly not mine, I saw it as a listing online. It is a 6 digit Winchester with Winchester parts (although not contemporary to the receiver).

    It is a peculiar piece that stuck out to me. I doubt any armorer would jerry-rig a design like that at an arsenal.

    It is not just a small machine screw but manufactured to fit the pinion and hold the elevation knob tight

    Well, the outside screw is a screw...and it's wrong. The outside is holding things tight I guess.
