Hi,
New in the mauser world, I just received this 98 RC captured and the front sight is not the same as the ones I see everywhere. Can you help identify it ?
thanks

Isn't that nice? Where did you come across that, gunshow or private deal? I didn't see that offered around...

Looks like a VZ-24 front sight protector. Pretty rifle which indicates to me that someone refurbished/refinished it. Looks like a nice job with the wood.

Indeed, a Czech
front sight protector. No German
soldier did that. Has been nicely done up by a collector.

That was what I thought, just an add on by a guy...

Most likely didn't have a sight protector when originally surplused. When I bought a RC a decade ago it didn't come with one or a cleaning rod. Either someone felt it looked better, or maybe they preferred it for shooting. Stock was also likely refinished by a previous owner. Still a nice rifle!
