seen an odd mauser

recently seen a odd mauser tht was deer slayered , ,no receiver markings , looked like it had a straight bolt originally that was turned down , the receiver is ported on the left side ,checkered safety , flat butt plate ,and the weirdest thing ive ever seen was its recoil lug or sometimes called cross bolt was in the wrist of the stock , the stock appeared to be original just cut down and minus any handguard

anyone ever see the recoil lug on the wrist of the stock away from the receiver all together

the receiver port was nicely done ,and assume to vent gas in the event of a blown primer?

not my rifle so no pics , but its a perplexing piece , bubba'd way past redemption but has some odd things going on

well, it sounds like a couple rifles but the Czech V24 is the most common. could be a Chilean 1935 maybe would need pictures

not a Chilean 1935 , the only recoil lug is the one on the wrist , none forward in the normal spot , and the wrist bolt on the chilean is for the sling swivel

vz 24 has finger grooves which are absent on this stock , which looks original , just modified

im not a newbie , ive been collecting since the 80's , i did purge allot of my mausers when my collecting focus veered in a different direction , kept a couple K98s , one of which is a sszzA4 BNZ 43 , a complete matched G43 , a ERFURT G98 converted to K98 configuration , P08', P38's , a wather PP with BB papers , VIZ Radoms war proofed , i could go on , ive owned many mausers including a Turk that escaped the coversion to 8mm that retained it Tughra crest which at the time only 6 known to exist in the states , and this rifle is baffled me not that i am a expert in all things mauser but im far frm ignorant as well

What did I write that made the post feel “sarcastic”, I merely thought of two Mausers I knew of the possibility met your description. I never questioned your collecting knowledge.

honestly i didnt even know it was you that posted it , i thought it was two different members , i skimmed it and skipped over it , theres usually one on the forum that likes to brow beat new members , i thought it was that , i know i dont have allot of ini to go on

handguard ring missing , bolt looks bubba'd , no forward recoil lug , no finger groove , standard pattern bolt , receiver, sights , checkered safety , ported receiver , trigger guard looks like it has the hole for the old QD swivel for parade dress of the sling , devoid of markings on receiver and receiver rail probably scrubbed

Things like this are near impossible to identify without photos. With good photos, they can usually be identified pretty quickly.

i appreciate that , you kinda get conditioned from other forums ,and they like to feed on low post counts

i totally get it without pics its a shot in the dark , but it wasnt my rifle and he abandoned the post in the other forum "National Gun Forum" , but it really intrigued me regarding the recoil lug and i d not recall the receiver port on a mauser so i thought i would persue it

I’m no Mauser expert either, but the images look a lot like a Spanish M1916 Mauser that’s been sporterised. A lot of the M1916’s were converted from 1893’s and the receivers were scrubbed and bolts were turned down. Scrubbed receivers were common in the M1916’s converted from 7mm to 7.62. They also cut a gas escape port in the receiver. Some of the M1916’s have cross bolts in the forend but not all do. A lot of them have repairs in the stock wrist where it was common for them to crack. I can’t say I’ve ever seen one with a cross bolt in the wrist before, but perhaps it was used to reinforce a repair. We’ll see what others have to offer, but that would be my guess.
