I was scrolling through my list of posts looking for a Ross rifle thread that I had posted to and was surprised to see FAKE?! in red letters at the beginning of my post. Why is that there and what does it mean?
Added: To elaborate, here is my post that has been deemed 'FAKE?!':
"The first 30,000 Canadians to go overseas were only issued 22,128 MkIII's which had to be augmented by MkII**, MkII 3* and even some MkII 5* so yes, your rifle could be legitimately stamped with CEF. All you need to do is find out which regiments were in the first group to ship overseas. I was thinking S.R.R. could be Soo Rifle Regiment but their battle honours didn't begin until 1917 with Arras and Ypres"
The information posted regarding the Canadian contingent and Ross rifles came from the first four paragraphs of P.62, Chapter 6 of 'The Ross Rifle Story'.
My qualified comment regarding the Soo Rifles came from P. 124 of 'The Concise Lineages of the Canadian Army 1855 to Date'
These citations can be very easily fact-checked.

Sorry but...I just went to this thread and the word "Fake" does not appear in the post... I don't understand was it removed? Was it on YOUR post? I can see it if I look at your list of posts but not in the thread. Do you mean at the top of the page?
I think the original poster was asking the forum members to examine the rifle to see if it were fake. So-- He probably included the "Fake ??" in the title of the thread. When you searched for your post it shows the name of the thread--- It does not mean your post is fake.
I think that the word "Fake" is shown because of where the original thread is posted, i.e. the forum dealing with appraisals, fakes, disputes, etc, etc. If you look at the top of the page in this forum you will see the word "Fake" in red.
I was taken aback initially because no other post in my list of posts has anything other than 'sticky' or 'thread' as a thread identifier. I'm relatively new to this forum so when I saw FAKE?! in red letters I was concerned that someone was challenging my veracity.
