Passing of C.S. "Nick" Ferris
I am deeply saddened to report the passing of a very dear friend and associate, C.S. "Nick" Ferris. Nick was the foremost authority on the Rock Island M1903 rifle and the U.S. Model 1917 Enfield Rifle. Nick was also a nationally-acclaimed marksman. Nick passed away on 12 September at the age of 90. He and I collaborated on those subjects and conducted joint research at the National Archives in College Park, MD. I was honored to host Nick for a visit in my home and he and Mid reciprocated and hosted me for a visit in his home. He will be missed. For those who would like to pay their respects, Nick's obituary appears at the following link.

It's sad to hear of his passing. I enjoyed his book on Rock Island Arsenal.
I really should pick up his book on the model 1917.

Condolences
I too am saddened at Nicks passing. Looks like a life well lived though, and another tree
planted is the least I can do.

His M1917 book is a great reference. I would encourage anyone interested in the M1917 to read especially the reference notes. Mr. Ferris will be sorely missed. My prayers to the family. He will be remembered for a long time to come by this community.
