Yes I have read stories on Lt. Gen Mark Clark that he was very much more interested of his portrayal in the press, little bit like another Field Marshal on the Britishicon side after El Alamein !

Mark Clark. I wonder if those places in Texas have forgiven him yet?

General Clark had a bad case of superiority complex. Everyone below him was sub-human, Everyone at his level was a threat and everyone above who was a stepping stone to greater power.

Believe me, we haven't. There is a 36th Infantry Division reenactment group based in Austin, Tx at Camp Mabry that holds a huge annual event to celebrate the T Patch'ers. I actually got to meet a couple of Veterans of the division years ago and to a man they all spoke poorly of General Marcus Aurelius Clarkus (as some of his subordinates called him). I followed the T Patcher's trail once from Camp Bowie Tx, to Brownwood Tx to Camp Blanding Fla only to find most of their history has disappeared along with the closing of the bases. Fortunately, there is an impressive and extensive museum at Camp Mabry which is well worth the trip to see.

It's interesting that for the most part the Engineer officers I met were all excellent and truly cared for the men's welfare, especially in light of the fact we were on many exercises whether at another base in Canadaicon, another base in The U.S., field exercises or overseas deployments. Officers who put their career path above the men's welfare soon developed a name for themselves and I'm sure it hindered their promotions as most of them never rose above the rank of Captain.

MY RIT History Professor Pellegrino Nazzaro as a teenager worked with the partisans, was captured twice by the Germans, presented a list of collaborators to Gen Clark, which he totally dismissed
