Began thinning out my collection a few years ago, as my children had no interest... wonderful, devoted kids, just not that interested in guns. Had some ideas on where a few of the key pieces "belonged" (like #3). I'm sure SA would have liked it, but all they can give you is a tax credit. That was worth considering in my working years with a total rate above 60% (Federal, NYC, NY State, NJ) but doesn't make economic sense to a retiree

I really appreciated your comment reference identifying where key pieces belong. I have the same issue with my kids and while I want them to benefit from the financial appreciation in value of my collection, I also think the local Air Museum and General Patton Museum would be great stewards of those pieces relevant to their themes and visitors.

I recall seeing some M1's in a government museum sadly they were deactivated.

Then they need less security measures. Our Regimental Museum in my old armory needed six different alarms systems because of their weapons display.
