The recoil I see isn't surprising nor would it be unmanageable. I shot the .55 boys without trouble too. They're heavy and that helps.

I'm wondering if you could use the penetrators from .50 cal, either the ball steel penetrators or the AP penetrators for enhanced performance...you'd have to swage a jacket on them, they would be undersize as .50 cal. Doesn't matter though...
