Well, there it is in black and white....... or at least white! The plastic stuff was not of my era but I suppose that it did prevent the white shoe cleaning stuff from getting all over your pressed and ironed No2 dress when it was drizzling......... as it was when I was on the quarter guard.
I was probably the only one with a medal and the DofE stopped and asked me how long I'd been in the BRIGADE. I mishheard him and thought that he asked me how long I'd been in the RAIN. So I told him, seriously, '.....only about 10 minutes Sir.....' His onterage all looked a bit bemused. That was until the Brigade Major and the RSM got level with me. The RSM whispered into my ear '..... I'll give you ten minutes laughing boy. Come and see me afterwards.......... Things weren't looking good

If memory serves me correctly WWA Ltd had a batch of them, the white webbing frogs, all in new, unissued condition and I believe that is where I got it from a few years ago.

Yes, WWA used to turn up a lot of nice stuff. It was in Les' blood! It was a great loss to the trade when he passed a few years ago. He was a good friend to me; on numerous occasions I got phone calls or emails along the lines of 'Roger, we've just bought 250 SMLE's. You'd better get up here quickly if you want to rummage through them, because we'll start deactivating them next week!' Needless to say, I always got up there in time........
