For those who got into this late , the purpose was to see what bullets could be used for long range 7.7mm Type 99 shooting . Since there are really no readily available .311 bullets that would be good for long range , but there are a lot in .308 , I wanted to see if a real long .308 bullet would ride the lands and stay straight . Also to see if I could get enough velocity out of the 58mm case . The Berger VLD bullets I used have a great BC and I got enough velocity to make them work . The whole question came up in the .303 / 7.7mm post and I thought it was an interesting idea . I also tested my 8x57mm sub-sonic load with a 225 soft round nose bullet . They shot much better than expected with 5-shot groups at 100 yards in the sub 2 inch range . Now to find out if they will work on a wild hog .
