    Colt 601 Bayonet

A Dutch M4 Bayonet two-piece handle from Numrich was ordered and may be a possible option to replicate the 601. The Dutch handle is slightly shorter in length by about 3/16" from the M7 but the difference might be made up by adding and sculpting with some JB Weld.

Note the reddish color is perfect and will allow it to slightly possibly wear through the green paint if desired also.

The Dutch M4 handles came in and they look pretty good. After some cutting and filing last few days, they're close to fitting the M7 but one hole in the shank of the M7 will need redrilling for the handles to line up. After that I'll need to sculpt both ends of the handles with JB Weld to make up the difference in length. Photos coming maybe later Saturday.

    601 Bayonet Repro

The Dutch M4 shank is shorter in comparison to the M7 as noted in the photos. The M4 handles needed to be routed out manually to fit - my Dremel battery won't charge anymore but got the handles to fit anyway. Both ends will need sculpting with additional JB Weld and the shaft will need one of the holes redrilled.

Can you use a leather washer at the ends? I guess that won't look right either.

Bit of wood extension at each end instead of leather?

Thanks for the suggestions - the handles appear very similar to Masonite and even smelled familiar when I cut on them it so that is what I'll attempt to use. I had a small scrap piece but was just under size. If I can find a larger scrap piece that might do the trick.
