Those Thompsons were really popular despite their weight and very short range. Limo driver in town carried one all through the war in Europe and loved it.

It does show how each weapon has it's niche the Thompson's just the ticket in room to room or close in where the long guns length is a bit of a hinderance.
The long gun doing what is it's forte accurate long range shots although we don't know the range besides the fact the 2 thompson GI's have got the long gun GI doing the business.

More likely than not covering fire. The rifleman gets them to duck and the Thompson guys rush and hose 'em down and maybe toss a grenade. My thought only.

4th. I.D. patch on soldier with Garandicon. Those are carbine mag pouches, and he has a carbine hanging from his right shoulder. He looks like he can handle any weapon.

That's 3rd ID, "Busted Television", 4th is the "Ivy Division" and I was in that division for a couple of years.

Thompson magazines in pouch far left G.I.

almost looks like the M3 clip pouch, actually 30 rd magazine pouch. Could be used for either
    M3 or TSMG

    later ones were marked
