I had a go of a 30 cal Mg at Cu-Chi tunnels also a Garand
but it broke the firing pin after 6 rounds so did not get to hear the "Ping".
I then had to have 2 rounds out of the 30 Mg well that lasted a long time. LOL

That's VERY unusual. I suspect they had a local repair job or home made part that dumped on you. US made M1
rifle parts are just about indestructible.

At the tunnels they had display cases full of black rifles & Garands and everything in-between I surmise the weapon I used was a beater that had seen 0000's of tourist rounds with nought basic maintenance.
We did the tunnel crawl at Cu-Chi the wife and I, alas my wife suffers claustrophobia to a degree so I had her follow me and helped her overcome to a degree the affliction I was happy as to do it but they did point out the tunnel was 20% larger than during the conflict.
Tight areas don't bother me after wearing B/A training & fighting fires at the power station.
