Call Springfield Armory, Inc, and ask them...

If you call Springfield Armory, Inc., they will be more than happy to give you all the particulars on that serial number; date of sale, configuration, etc.

Obviously, someone thought you were asking about a Garandicon, with the 1939 date. Good luck, Karl

Late 1979 or early 1980. Go to the sticky above by Emerson on the M14icon and scroll down to the appendix on the Serial numbers for Spfld INC.

    Even Thousand M1A serial number

If you rifle has an even thousand serial number it should be so marked and was produced in 1991 as a special comemorative. The special rifles had a gold medalion in the stock, a nicer finish and were bead blasted and blued rather than Parkerized.
