Anyone Coyote hunt with the carbine?

No eagles around here to speak of. Maybe 10 years back one was spotted and made the local news. Thing about this Rabbit leg is that it was found near her driveway. She had put the trash out before dark and it wasn't there. Next morning before heading to work she was adding a small bag to the garbage and seen the rear leg just a couple feet from her dumpster. So it showed up at night. I'm not ruling out a Big Hawk that could have dropped it elsewhere and something dragged it here. But at the size of the leg that had to of been one big Azz Hawk. We've had our share of Hawks hit the morning doves using our bird feeders, sometimes hearing the doves 'Plump' in to the patio glass. The kill was fresh and I should of got a picture even if just to show how the bone was crushed to get to the marrow.

Yesterday after I posted above I rode down and mowed the vacant double lot I own which is next door to her place. While looking around the riverbank I found 3 separate Chicken feather piles. That partial log jam is to the left behind the ladies house. The banks are too steep to walk down to look around.
Only on this side of our road can you own farm animals because it's a different township. I'll have to ask my neighbor next door Ole Bill when I see him who might own chickens.

Got excited this morning hunting as a nose slooowly started poking thru the high grass as the ducks were close to the bank. Kept poking thru until I could see it was a wet mid size Doe that came down in to the water about knee deep for a drink. Others followed, some fed on the acorns others laid out in the sun on the grass. This is actually the best time to be Pike fishing, but I'll stick with this a bit longer.

Don't let size dissuade the possibility. I've seen an entire, very fat, squirrel carried off in daylight by a rather small red tail hawk. Landed on it with some force. I was not 20 yards away working in the yard and it startled me almost as much as it did the squirrel. He worked the talons in for half a minute until the squirming slowed, then worked real hard to get up to the big branch right next to my back porch. I slowly pulled out my phone and took a few picks. As I manuvered closer to get a better shot with fewer leaves in the way, it spooked and flew off with his quarry. He struggle for altitude with such a large squirrel, but by the time he was maybe 40ft off the ground he gave up and let go. It was a sight to behold the damage that was done with just a minutes work of his talons.
Most of our yard rabbits are only out at night or twilight, surprisingly quite tame. Then again I am in the burbs. I catch foxes almost every night on my cameras. And if I step out to the porch for a late nightcap, I will often hear their death scream. If only they put a bigger dent in the population, I might have a cabbage survive to make it to the dinner table. I'll try to dig for my yard-hawk pictures. Remarkable birds - any bird of prey for that matter.

Just a follow up so I don't leave anyone hanging that was following this,

I pulled back trying to hunt Coyote with no luck. Hadn't heard any close since the Bow hunters hit the woods. Finally ran in to Ole Bill my neighbor and found out it's actually his Daughter well down the street that has Chickens. They've had problems with Fox prying their way in to the coops. Said they'd lost 6 before they wrapped it in mesh fence over the chicken wire.
Woods are busy with the Firearms Deer hunters now. My property is posted..... but good luck with that. I talked to a group one evening and just warned against shooting over the high southern banks (our side) so they wouldn't hit my boats and boat house/shop. They had permission from 1 family member of the group that owns the section that borders my section across the river to the North. They had no idea of the property lines, so they said.... But I have it posted. And this is the same Family that has always had me watch the property for them. I don't plan to hunt but told them I'd be out so don't crowd the riverbanks. They seemed like pretty good people, I just worry about when 'Buck Fever' hits. Seen some stupid Sh!t when some hunters see those horns. They did ask for permission to track if they hit one and it came on my north section. To which I agreed to for some Jerky

In 1989, I took a Blacktail deer with an M1 Carbine, at 97 long paces, with a single heart/lung shot (R-P 110 grain JSP). It jumped once (about for 30 feet!) when hit, and fell over dead right there. Heck of an exit hole on the opposite side.

Hornady makes their "Critical Defense" line for the M1 Carbine. It has a reliable expanding 110 Grain Flex Tip bullet at about 2020 PFS from a carbine. I use one of my carbines as my Home Defensive carbine with the critical defense in the mag in the weapon. The two mags in the stock pouch are R-P110 JSPs and R-P110 FMJs. That would be a good coyote load, too.

At close range it's like getting hit with a 357 magnum. That soft point probably mushroomed to at least 45 caliber by the time it came out.

On the other hand at 200 yards against heavy Chinese winter gear not so good.

Right up my ally. I can’t see anything much past 75-yards anyway.

Still really not convinced or a fan of the "Flex Tip" ammo. Have shot a number of deer with a 450 bushmaster with their flex tip ammo with it just punching through (having to track farther than I care to), changed to Hornady's soft point and got great (drop dead) results. As far as the carbine "critical defense" it shoots great in most of my carbines but will hang up in more than a few.
