One story was an attack of a GI by a Japanese
officer with sword...the GI had to block a chopping sword attack with his carbine. The sword cut off his little finger and cut the fore stock through to the steel. They shot the IJA officer several times.

I wonder if this guy later traded the Katana for a bottle or some such when shipboard. Mudrollers could expect to see more of those. Sailors, not so much.
