Two guys slightly right of center with K98ks. Trophies I guess. They're a bit disorganized for prisoner handling I think. I don't see anyone tasked with nothing but watching POW. Too much milling around...

Yes, strange situation. The only thought I can come up with is that the picture might have been taken so late in the war that those Germanicon soldiers didn’t have any fighting spirit left… All was lost, but life. Yet…

hard to say what is behind the camera or what is left or right out of frame - note the seven Germanicon soldiers being processed in the middle of the group that are standing up

Wondering about the GI middle right. Is he a lefty or is the POW about to get a surprise.
As an aside….When I see pics like this I can’t help reflect on my four first-generation American Uncles who fought overseas (3 ETO one pacific). They knew that at least one of their cousins from the old country was in a Germanicon uniform.

Its strange, I think that they be Allied troops, Note the rank insignia of the back of the helmets to the folks off to the right in the picture. Any ideas?

You have to remember that towards the end of March and through April of 1945, the Germanicon troops were surrendering at a rate that hindered organized processing. The GIs and Brits were moving east on both sides of the divided autobahn and the Germans were Marching west, nearly un-escorted, towards camps in the median. They'd run out of ammo and will to believe that they could win, so there was little desire to fight and die left in them. Basically, all that were left were true believer SS troops and Hitler Jungen who were raised as die-hards and had no 10,000 foot view of their predicament. Both were deadly, but the regular feldgrau, the line soldiers of the Heer, had had it and were over it and the Allied troops knew it.
