A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Fixing the magazine should be fairly easy but will take some trial and error. A small block of wood put in first, and then the spring should take care of it. Getting the wood the right thickness is the trial and error.

I don't have a sporterized No4 but I did partially sporterize a No III once but have since reversed it.

They make black plastic stocks for both the rear and the front and a company called B-square makes scope mounts that don't alter the rifle at all. Just take a couple of screws out, put it on and put the screws back. I never took photos of it in the black stock. Didn't like the forestock much but the butt-stock had a rubber pad on it like normal hunting rifles. I put that on it, left the forestock and killed two deer with it.

I know the BSquare works well with the No 4, don't know about the No1.
For the No 1 rifle. Cut off the right hand part of the charger guide. Attach bridge between the remainder of the charger guide and front of action. Fit telescope. Worked for me for hundreds of rounds.
Next step if you want a full stock. Remove top wood, shorten barrel to 20/22". Refit front sight. Shorten fore-end. Refit Nose Cap to fore-end after removing ears of the cap and shortening it from the front of bayonet lug. Fit aftermarket sling swivel as front band isn't necessary anymore. Makes for a handy fast handling pleasure to shoot rifle. Unfortunately I didn't take photos of mine before I sold it but that is what I did.
To solve the 5 round problem, mark a line around the inserted magazine, cut of the bottom part, weld/braze a bottom plate in. The cut magazine will fit flush but will still be removable. Break off the bottom leg of the magazine spring. Reinsert spring and follower. Takes 4/5 rounds then. If you don't want to cut the magazine, buy another one to alter. I had spare magazines so I had a 5 shot flush fitting magazine for my No1MkIII*. Makes the rifle look totally different.
