    Scope Case

By chance I just happened to notice this scope case on eBay UKicon but, please, don't all rush at once.

Unfortunately I can't get a link to work.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Never understood why they didn't put the sling loops on the case bottom half only so that the lid could be opened without fiddling with the sling. The orientation was wrong as well which was recognized in the canvas version. A piece of heavy web about as wide as the flat on the case bottom held on with some bolts or rivets through the case bottom and with a couple of buckles sewn on one end at about 60° angle would have held it in the right orientation without impeding opening and closing, though they're so heavy they'd always be flopping around and getting in the way. The canvas version's lighter, thinner and stronger strap was an improvement and presumably the result of user feedback at the time. If they had rubber-lined that case it might have remained in service, though the corners of the lid wore through pretty quickly probably? Hence the C67 & Tel. Snipers, Observing cases: light, waterproof and no rattles.

Acknowledged, but the leather case (if in great condition) looks so cool! I was lucky to get both a scope and case in extremely good (not quite great) condition.

    here you go :

    316879002833 for sale | eBay

If I paste a link it also won't work.

Has the forum got a ban on Ebay links ?
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

The 'Commercial auction and sale gossip' forum is usually the place for these posts...

I was thinking of the scope Case, No.8 rather than the old three draw telescopes, except for the reference to the similar cases made for the C67 scope and the Telescope, Sniper's, Observing by R.E.L.

Re the difficulty in opening the No8 case when the sling is fitted. If the snipers did what the instructors told/advised them to do on the first day of the course, when they were looking at the kit they would be using on the course, they'd pull out the leather sling and replace it with a thinner, webbing 37 or 44 pattern cross strap. End of problem!

I happened to see the scope case by chance and thought that people might be interested and as it is Enfield related I posted it here.

If you have no interest in it then don't read the thread.
