Hello - this is John, or JKirk208, live near Austin, Texas, presently in lovely Taji, Iraq with the U.S. Army. I got hooked permanently in 1994 when the person running my country decided we needed an assault weapons ban. I haven't looked back since. If it is U.S., military from 1890 forward I probably have several, plus a smattering of British
, Russian
and Swede. Right now I carry the black rifle which we have only shot while conducting required annual qualification. If you have any questions about what is in use here, please ask away. I will be home in about two months and can't wait to go place .30 holes in paper at long distances.
I note that this is a Canadian sponsored board and wish to say hello to my friends and co-workers in TO. I miss my travels there! I swear I have blood kin somewhere in Canada
!
Regards, John

Good evening all. I have just discovered your wonderful site. I was actually searching for information about 1917 Enfield Rifles
. A friend of mine sold me one earlier this week. I wrapped it up as a birthday gift for my son and presented it to him this last Saturday. My son and I enjoy going to gun shows to see old surplus rifles together because the wife and daughter don't find these activities to be very interesting. It seems most of the firearms in my collection are military. I mostly enjoy purchasing firearms that are broken, or missing parts. At one time there was an abundance of these sorts in my area. To me, it's almost as much fun making the missing parts as it is to shoot the repaired guns. I'm a machinist by trade, and have the necessary equipment to the repairs, and fabrication. I like to occasionally make parts for other people that are having trouble getting particular parts or want to have a part made that they designed themselves. One other thing I enjoy doing is teaching about weapons at my reserve center. I am an 18 year veteran of the Navy. People really enjoy seeing the older weapons that I bring with me to lecture with. I mostly instruct new service members on M-16 familiarization, and sometimes crew served weapons. I hauled my 1919 A-4 with me one time and had my son set it up to demonstrate how challenging it could be if they were 13 years old. The funny thing is, the average person doesn't much interest in older weapons but when they see one in person they usually are very interested. I try to do my part to put collecting firearms in a positive light. I would like to believe that my enthusiasm has introduced several of my friends into shooting, and collecting firearms as a hobby. Well, that's a little about me. I'm interested in learning about you all. Let's get started..

Have been collecting for about 10 years now , so I consider myself new. I really find the 1917 a great firearm because of privite industry invovlement and it was the first militarynarm I collected.
