Yup, I was one of the silly buggers. I started collecting militaria and weapons back in the 1970's and other than setting up the odd display I never reenacted in Canada. That all changed when I moved to Texas. I enjoy airshows and every one I attended down here also had historic militaria displays, weapon demonstrations, and vintage aircraft, vehicles and armor. I talked to a few reenactors, mentioned what I owned and was invited to participate in future reenactments so I tried a couple out, found them to be a lot of fun and kept doing it until my age was inappropriate for the battle. There's a lot of money in Texas and I was gob-smacked at the numbers of tanks, artillery, soft-skinned vehicles, fighters, bombers, and helos that are in private hands down here. Opportunities abound to ride in these vehicles and aircraft and fire some of the artillery. It doesn't matter how much suck we embraced during our time in, getting to fire blanks out of a live FLAK 88 at an attacking A26 is well worth the experience.
