Carbine Markings.....German??
A friend picked up a carbine yesterday and it is oddly marked form what I am use to seeing. It has the last four numbers of the serial number (3672) stamped on the operating slide, handguard, stock & the trigger housing and electro penciled on the bolt. On the bottom of the trigger housing is another four numbers 0638 and the letters LGKNO, there are two dots above the O. Best guesses?

I think this is one that went to the Bavarians and then was sold to the Austrians. The marking on the trigger housing is consistent with the Austrians. The others are consistent with the Bavarians. See if there are markings on the receiver right along side the bolt. I have one with all the same markings you describe and it very faintly says Bavarian Forestry Police on the receiver.

If the new adjustable sight obscured the serial number during rebuild/or when the flip sight was replaced, then the serial number was stamped in front of the new sight.
