I got about the same treatment from the VFW after Viet Nam. Now that I've seen the decision by the head honcho of the VFW to excuse Janet Napoletono's slur on returning vets from the present wars, I feel lucky I didn't join.

Joined neither one, I was not shot at, so the VFW is out. And I don't drink, so either one would not be in the running. Three yrs Army and retired after 25 in the Air Guard. Closest I came was being in Panama the two weeks before the baloon went up. Hardly worth mentioning.

American Legion - 10 years this July. Joined after I saw the Honor Guard do military rites at a neighbor's funeral. I would like to be involved in that after I retire from my present occupation, if the Lord wills...

I got out 37 years ago. Went to the local VFW post and was also told that Viet Nam wasn't a "war". Haven't had any use for those guys since. I've recently thought about visiting the local AL . . . might still happen.

Belong to the American legion, VFW,VVA, DAV. I've never attended a meeting of any of these organizations. I joined in order to support financially my fellow vets.
