This might sound incredibly stupid, but, if you have to remove a screw on any valuable firearm, you must use the proper screwdrivers. Standard gunsmith style are the bare minimum. Quite sometime back I made a major investment and bought smith drivers made in Englandicon. I would not touch an gun of significant value without them. Hold them straight, tight and around 0.010" undersized, but, to be quite honest, I'm with Claven2 unless it's broke you shouldn't remove it-HTH-SDH
