I do not know. The best I can find in Leslie's book on the SAW is a summer pith helmet worn only by privates and NCO'S. Looks like a salad bowl.

If these be Rough Riders then the guns shown were purchased and donated to them by(No. 1) Trooper William Tiffany's family.

I di not check the names against the Rough Rider list in the book. You could be right as I know nothing about that trooper.
The "Salad Bowl"guy is a sargent.
