I beleve that the army actually fought more battles, took more islands, and had many more troops involved in the Pacific war then the Marines. However those Island landings by the Marines were hard fought and worthy of pride, Ray

Let's not forget that the Marines are a small service. The Army is the main service for ground combat. Marines are a specialty service, who's role has changed from ships guards and small landing parties, to Amphibious warfare specialists to todays prepositioned force in readyness. The Marine Corps job in WWII was to take foot holds on larger islands and secure advance Naval Bases and Airfields. The Army was tasked with taking larger islands and in some cases i.e. the Admirlty Islands, entire smaller islands. It boiled down to what units were available in what theaters. The PTO is by far my largest intrest in WWII history, probably because I was a Marine myself and got to see the battle fields on Okinawa, and visit the actual bridge over the River Kwai while serving. However, I also grew up listening to my step Grandfathers stories about New Gunea, the Admirlty Islands, and Phillipine campaigns. He served with the 1st Calvary Division. Anybody who fought in those jungle terrains has my utmost respect. And I only had to train in them and thought at times it was hellish. As for the movie focusing on the Marines, I am all for it. The Army has a few really good WWII movies now. The Marines are still stuck with "Windtalkers" which frankly was a let down. The Navy guys however should be feeling the most slighted. With todays special effects can you imagine a movie remake of Midway?? Hopefully Hollywood will churn out some more good movies while the Vets are still alive to give first hand information, reguardless of the Branch of Service or the Theater of Operations.

Yes after 5months of being abandoned,also the 4th marine regiment surrendered there.

At Kaneohe USMC base,I was in the comm section,H&S 4th Marines
My CO was a Captain (Mustang),,he was on the Bataan death march,,He drove a nice convertible,,but was a deticated Drunk,,but he did his duty,,any time the MP's found him in the ditch dead drunk,,they were under standing orders to take him home and put him to bed..I had the priviliage to be his driver for over a year
