1944 Colt A1 with box
This 1944 Colt comes with a box. Any comments on the original Kraft box per the auction listing? It’s now adding $500-800 to the total, may be more at the closing bid late today.

It looks like a reproduction box to me. Looks like someone carefully put some paper tape around it though to make it look original. You have to remember these boxes are 65+ years old and they should show it. I would definately be a little skeptical.

I agree that the box is probably fake. Magazine is General Shaver which Colt never used.

In other words, buy the gun, not the box.

Box aside, that's a nice looking pistol offered by a guy who has a pretty good reputation. But he does hedge about the box.

Yes, he did 'hedge' a little about the box with this auction description and I was disappointed.
He usually seems very above board with his descriptions.

Jack the Dog is just the Auctioneer. He does the best he can to represent the sales very honestly and above board. I'm sure the owner of the pistol and box give their input as to what they want written in the ads as well. I'm very sure that Jack the Dog would not knowingly mislead anyone in his Auctions. He has too much at stake.

I too believe jack the dog to be honest. That said, I don't believe he would allow anyone to dictate to him how he describes his auction pieces.
I'm disappointed he didn't recognize what I believe is an outright fake box. In the end, the buyer made the bid that probably cost him $500-700 for a $25 box from Ray Willas.
