What are you doing to practice?

Please excuse me if this has already been discussed but what are you doing to practice to keep up with your form? I haven't been to the range this year because of no reloading supplies. Any suggestions on what to do? Do I purchase a pellet rifle and practice that way? Thanks.

Not so much as practice, go out when I'm really in a good frame of mine and try to revive what little discipline I have left. Shoot mainly pull down supplies that I started acquiring back during the '03 pull down, just putting all that back together. Did pick up 10K of CCI#34 last year for 15 bucks a brick, now use them instead of WLR which I have 4 K left of them. Still have over 50 lbs. each of single base and double base powder left. Do need to get a few small rifle primers though, finally got into the black rifle game. Have yet to get into some 2K M2 slugs, still have maybe 3K of the old M1 173gr. that works like a charm in my M1A. Guess I was like the ant, got ready for lean times. SMK's stocked up for my bolt guns for when I feel like really paper punching.

Practice your offhand. I think you gain the most from this, whether by
dryfiring or using a pellet gun.

At least three times a week I shoot a practice match dry-firing in the den after everyone is asleep. I aim at a thumb tack on a white sheet of paper. I do the entire business of sling, etc. I use dummy rounds to practice the reloading and working the bolt (Rem. 03) all the way back. I do not have a .22 rifle that mimics the 03, but I use my little Win. 190 w/ the iron sights to shoot out at a church members house. We put up cans, etc. and fire away. It is not precise, but it is fun and we enjoy good fellowship. I would love to get my hands on a good .22LR bolt action on the 03 pattern. I would consider having such a rifle to practice with nothing less than luxury.

For my M-1, I have used the above method but I do not use dummy rounds as it is hard enough working the bolt (left handed). I do practice the reload w/ dummy rounds.

Either the pellet rifle or a .22 will keep you in practice. Although for a while we did have a problem getting .22 ammo. It takes the same movements and memory to shoot the small stuff as it does to shoot the big stuff. Hand/eye coordination and muscle memory.

Just a point, it's been over 100F for the past two weeks with more to come. If you think I am gonna go out to the range in this heat, at my age (72) forget it!
