Greetings everyone. I’m a refugee from the old 03 Forum, and it has taken me this long to find you. My name is Marshall, and I grew up in rural Pennsylvania at a time when nobody thought much about guns; virtually everybody had them and used them like any other tool. Milsurps were everywhere, bring-backs from Europe and the Pacific. My family had a number of milsurps, the most interesting of which was a 30-40 Krag with a taped together stock and a German sniper scope. Today we would think of it as a Bubbaized collectable, but then it was meat on the table. When I was 10, I got a German Mauser, and, with the exception of a couple of time-outs for school and kids, I’ve been shooting and collecting ever since.

My collecting interests are military rifles of the major belligerents of World War II and military rifles of the U.S. from around 1900 up. Of course, those guns get very lonely without authentic slings, bayonets, helmets, and other gear. And since I try to shoot everything I own, they all need lots of ammo. And then there are those WWI guns that might have been used in WWII.... Oh, and the pistols…. And, of course, some of the modern, non-military guns are just sooo cool..... But you’re all familiar with the disease and its progression.

I’m looking forward to participating, although I tend to be more of a lurker than a poster (which isn’t necessarily bad, because you can see I get wordy). But I promise to weigh in from time-to-time, and I will post some photos as soon as I figure out how to take decent ones.

New member that knows very little about computers and only a little more about the military arms of interest. I've owned/collected U.S. WWI & WWII weapons for quite a while and only recently have acquired a number of Allied and Axis weapons. I've shot a few of them, enjoying every minute, and plan to do some more. I have a primary interest in the basic most common issued weapons to infantry troops. I'm looking forward to a rewarding assoicatin with this group. And have an initial question: I recently acquired a "Savage" Enfield that has a feature that I can't seem to find any information on. Attached to the muzzle band is a short rod which points forward but does not interfere with a bayonet or extend beyond the muzzle. It pivots slightly but only a couple of degrees. I've been told that was a stacking rod but I havn't seen any confirmation of this. Also I was wondering what material Savage/Stevens used for butt plates. Was it brass, steel or some other material. I would appreciate any info about these two features. Thank you.

Hey all, newbie here. I've heard of this site before, but never got around to checking it out. Seems like I've also heard there's a tie to Denver here somehow? I'm in Denver and have an M1 Garand, I'd like to find a local feller to bother with my questions. It shoots great, I'd just like someone to look it over and tell me what I have.

Hi all, new old guy here! I have a 30-40 Krag and I need to know what it is for sure. Is it a carbine or rifle? The holes in the barrel (factory) or a after thought? I can't read the date very well it look's to be 1896 or 1898. The serial number start with a 95XXX and I cant seem to find it listed anywhere. The peep sight original or not? I know the butt pad has been installed my dad had this done back in the late 50's cause it hurt his shoulder when he shot it (whimp)! It was my great grand dads and has been in the family for a long time and as far as my dad and I know it's never been altered............but don't know for sure. I my opinion it is in very good condition and shoots like a dream and I want to continue to hunt with it, and was curious when would be the largest game to use it with. One last thing what would it be worth for insurance value? I will attched photos for viewing. Thank for anyones help!

Hello everyone. I am new to collecting, having recently bought an M1 Iwo Jima Commemeorative Edition. Now I am looking to add another M1 that I can take to the range, as well as a 1903, and possibly a Krag. I am retired from the USMC/USMCR and am a reader of military history. I am familiar with weapons and equipment but have not had the opportunity to collect before.
