M97 trenchgun?
A friend told me about a possible trench gun for sale and as I don't know much about these, can someone enlighten me. It is a Winchester 1897 trench configuration, SN# C122951. Appears according to him to be reblued, no hole on inside top of barrel, barrel not numbered, 4 row heat shield and a 1917 US marked bayonet. No US stamp on reciever and no flaming bomb. When was the reciever built, what can be discerned about the gun and what might be its value. Pending your replies, I may travel to look at the gun.
Thanks for the expertise.

Don't know the exact receiver date, but it's way too early to be a WWI Military contract trench gun. And even if it was a correct WWI receiver, a 4 row hole heat shield is of WW2 mfg.

The heat shield and bayonet are worth a few bucks provided both are real. The gun would have to be really cheap to be worth buying and the two parts mentioned would have to be in good shape. Derrick
