Oh I’m quite sure it was a fake.
In addition to your observations I would add:
A) The finish of the Cheek Piece doesn’t match the stock
B)In the photo taken looking into the inside of the receiver the inside of the holes drilled for the alignment pins and screws look freshly drilled and are bright steal yet the rest of the rifle looks to be a post war re-park making it quite impossible for this to be correct.

C) Recent import mark. Was there a recent find of Long Branch snipers imported into the US?
