Saginaw SG carbine
OK a couple of questions on my S.G. number 3509072. Should it have a flip sight if so what marking or a milled sight with what marking if any? There is no date on the barrel so what is the vintage? What are some of the things to look for to see if it's correct? I'm new to carbines I traded one of my service grade Garands to a buddy for it. Thanks

All SG's would have originaly come with a rear flip sight....except...I THINK in the later part of their last serial number block past 6 mil.

Most major parts are marked, if Saginaw they will be marked SG. Bolt and internal parts, slide, trigger housing, hammer, trigger and mag. catch. I think your Saginaw would date around Jan/Feb 1944.

About Feb.1944 for your carbine. Saginaw did not date their barrels. As Charlie said a flip sight would have been correct with unmarked base and only an S on the left side. Used in the later production before the type 2 started in use at the end of production.
