Aberdeen proving ground , ordanence museum

im talking the family to the museum in the next week, if anyone has any requests for pictures, email me at phillysaier@aol.com with your requests.
i was there in 1990-91 and from what i can remember, they had thousands of rifles, hand guns etc on display.
bad news is , i hear they are moving the entire museum in the next few years to southern virginia, which is why i want my kids to see it now.

    APG Ordnance Museum

In 1965 at the age of 17 working summer at the Technical Library near the BRL section of APG, I waited for the bus to take me home by occupying my time at the end of each working day touring the museum. It was housed in a nearby hanger-type building.

I remember the walls of rifles and pistols behind glass cases. I remember the tanks, the V1 and V2 rockets.

Then, they moved the works to a smaller newly built building with the tanks parked in fields. Viet Nam war artifacts became the latest addition to the museum.

I never tired of seeing these war relics. The site of a Tiger Tank put fear in me.

I hope the museum doesn't move out of town. I live near the town of Aberdeen.

Because of your message of a possible move, I will visit the museum, again. It's been 8 years since I've been there.

Thanks for your pic offer and your info.

    Thomas

Its my understanding that the Ordnance Dep't headquarters is in the process of moving to Ft. Lee, VA, near Petersburg, and a huge indoor museum is under construction that will house most if not all the exhibits that are currently outdoors in Aberdeen. I imagine the proving ground will remain at Aberdeen, but that is speculation on my part.

I tried to get into the Aberdeen Ordnance Museum a few years ago and they told me I needed a government ID. I did not think to try to use my VA service connected ID. Maybe that would have worked. Do you hava a government ID? If not, I would suggest checking before you go.

The government ID a few years ago might have been because of the worry of attack.
My old unit is based on Coronado and I needed a pass or invitation from the commander a few years ago to attend our annual memorial. Which was not a problem to get. But this year not.
