I will probably just give it to one of the grandkids to lug around the desert shooting.
Sorry you are not happy with your Austrian return. the black oxide finish is nice and even on my Rockola with the name clearly visible behind the Type 3 sight as well as on the barrel. I wasn't lucky enough to get a type 1 band, but I did get a very nice replacement Winchester non-potbellied M2 stock. The finish on the stock makes it feel like it has been lovingly "boned" and only needed an easy cleaning with Murphy's soap. The "plum" trigger housing, while a little gaudy, makes for a nice conversation piece.

Mine was last issued to an Austrian Gendarme named G. Weber. Can you name the last person who was issued any of your non-Austrian M1icon carbines?

Would I have preferred a "pretty" USGI carbine as last issued to an American GI?....sure.

Am I disappointed with my Austrian Rockola?....not a bit....other than not scoring a Type 1 barrel band like you did.

Let me know if your lucky grandkid wants to have a cool looking bayonet mount instead of that skinny Plain Jane Type 1 band. I'll even throw in the bayonet.
