Need to know what I have, and what it's worth...
Just got an M1
carbine stock from my brother. i list what i know, and hope you can fill in the rest...
it is a low wood M1 stock, no cut for the selctor switch.
the sling slot is oval, with a "J" on the left side in the sling slot. it has the standard "P" on the grip.
the recoil plate is marked "L J" .
it has a stamped buttplate, and has the band retaing spring.
the wood is rough, with many handling marks, and several dents and dings. but is sound, with no cracks.
So who made it? and what's it worth?
I have a nice Rock-ola, but do not need a spare stock, and since he gave this stock towards money owed me, i'd like to get something of value out of this. and knock down some of what he owes me...
thanks guys...

I dont recall the maker of the top, but something like "Jewel Brothers"?
But the plate and stock are wartime replacement stocks. if it does not have a cartouche on it, probably worth less than $50(on the generous side), based on ebay, and the recoil plate, probably about $10-20
THe higher end would depend on nice grain, tiger, etc. plus maybe 25 with CC cartouche

Be careful with those pics of your stock!
Glad you weren't hurt badly, but your post made me laugh out loud.
Not laughing at your misfortune, but the way you wrote the scenario was a classic.

It could have been more serious than it was. my arm was sore for a week, whenever i flexed my arm i felt it..
I try to go for the humor of the situation, so i am glad i got a laugh out of you...
I prefer the lighter side of tragedy..
remember "it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, then it's hilarious".
I have been crippled to long to look at the dark side. Any accident i can crawl away from, is a good one.
I'd tell you about the time i nearly broke my leg when i lost my virginity to a stripper, but this is a family site. that was funny....
thanks for reading my post... Charles

and to Philydude, I first saw Holly in agust 87. She would drop by the house from time to time.
more to follow....

But this way we all get to read it.
Who is not going to use the translator when it is right there. The mystery of the message being written that way makes you want to read it.
