How did they keep those Army hats so sharp and crisp?

Team Hats
I never owned one but here's the info as I remember it. The hats were designed that way. The top of the hat was a flat oval and the sides were straight as you see them. There were pieces of plastic in the top and the sides to keep them in shape. They were quartemaster issue. Some of the guys in Korea had them also and would have them painted with various designs. Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the information. I have a current Ridgeway "type" of cap, and I never seem to keep it looking that good. I always wondered how they did it.
Best Regards, Nikos

Garand pic by Bill M.

Of course this is Bill Mauldin's cartoon. Finally found a used copy of his book. Very interesting look at Army life. He was in the hospital once and very ill. Some big wig officer came in and wanted to know why Bill could not lay at attention!!
