I seem to remember from my younger years, that this mount was sold through surplus dealers. It wasn't especially cheap with its pedigree being G&H, but didn't sell real well either as it required more than a screwdriver to put on a rifle.

An older gunsmith from those younger years, used to use these as Enfield mounts as they were very good mounts. He outfitted several very nice conversions with these mounts and rings, as they were better than other options for conversions to sporters. He also like Lyman scopes as I recall, saying they had overcome the weatherproofing problems so common to scopes in that day.

I can't comment on the authenticity of this rifle, but my rule on buying a rifle has always been to check and then double check before you unfold your wallet for anything in that price range. There are likely more fakes out there than originals with prices reaching to the sky.

In the surplus arms field, I have observed over nearly the last fifty years enough shenanigans to make you think twice before buying most things. Think fake most likely, then be pleasantly surprised if it is not.

I started to laugh when I first read this but then realized maybe they deserve a pat on the back for creating a clone that even the most novice of collector couldn’t mistake for real.
