Ran across this while perusing the ads and thought someone might be interested since we've had a couple threads about Bavarian carbines and I have one very similar that I found at CMP.

Maybe he should mention the extra holes in the receiver.

I find those holes in the reciever interesting. When I was 19, the first gun I bought was a S.G. carbine. It had all late features, and the trigger housing was red. I later learned that the red trigger housings were common among the Bavarian carbines. My Sag. also had several holes in side of the receiver that someone had filled with weld and then ground smooth. I assumed that someone had tried to drill for some type of side scope mount, though the holes seemed to big for a mount and a side mount on a carbine makes little sense. This photo sheds some new light on the mystery. The rifle is a "parts" gun, so the seller must of had a few Bavarian parts laying around. I learned a vaulable lesson on my very first purchase: buying then researching is bad; researching then buying is better! Although, at the time, I used the 'I'm only 19 and don't have much money' angle to get the seller to practically give it to me--which he probably didn't mind considering what it is.
