No opinions?
No one has any idea what this barrel is or what it is worth? On the Internet I see original, marked, replacement barrels being offered in the $170 range and they don't have a sight or gas valve; does that mean this one is a $50 barrel, $100 barrel, $150 barrel? I am thinking in the $125 range; am I nuts? Thanks and I need some feedback here. Regards.

If this is a new barrel then the sight is not original to it. It's a used Underwood sight and the barrel looks like it's been sand blasted and the reparkerized. Are there any markings on the barrel flat at all like the letter H?

Thanks Bruce for responding and trying to help. There is nothing stamped on the barrel anywhere except what I posted and that is on top of the breech area. Looking at that again I believe it is a D instead of an O. If carbine barrels were needed and some were made as replacements, wouldn't they be assembled ready to install at the field level Armorer? Would that account for the front sight being installed along with the band? It looks to me like the band had to be put on first, before the front sight. What about the tag in the packaging? I could see also the packaged part was the basic barrel and whoever bought it installed the band and sight? Thanks again and I look forward to more input. PS: I put a .30-06 bullet in the muzzle and there is about 3/16" bullet still exposed so there isn't much muzzle errosion, right?

I may be wrong,
But it looks like it had the skirt trimmed down to a short one.
Looks like a D to me. First glance I thought it was a partial P but it sure looks lke a D.
Maybe MR. Ricca might recognize the markings on the tag.
Good Luck

Lucky OB'98 has that tag.
The link FTD supplied states this,
"The outer package has the following stamped in black on the white outer packaging : 1005-555-7154"
Link also states,
" the barrel itself ; It has on the bottom flat area : "8448416 HC" with :" 12 -71 Lot3 " below it .
The top round chamber area has a single "P"
So what's happened?
Do you think someone blasted off the markings on the barrel flat?
To hide who really made it?
Then Re-parked?
Looking that way....isn't it.
Hopefully it isn't chrome lined.
Good Work FTD,
I think you hit the nail on the head!
I was busy looking at the barrels from NAT ORD that were made up from De-milled GI barrels that had the 1903A3 barrel insert, since there were no markings on the flat.

Well, my prize find is turning into a turnip. I am no expert, but I would have to say it has a chromed lined barrel and chamber. I read Bill Ricca's article on them and I can speculate that the part number for the chrome bore was removed from this barrel's bottom flat to deceive buyers. There may have been an import mark also removed since they were imported home from Korea. I guess it is a hit and a miss on the headspacing, if it is OK then all is well with the barrel. If it is not OK then the reaming of the chamber is in order and can't be done with the chrome lined chamber. So what is this turnip worth, anything?

One caution on the history. The ENTIRE contract was rejected, both chrome and non chrome barrels. The chrome barrels have more issues than the non chromed.
That label is a fake. That format was never used by the military. Furthermore back in the days of FSN, the military never packed anything in a plastic wrapper without VCI paper.
Barrels that were imported from Korea had no import markings, unless they came in assembled on a carbine.
Are there any markings on the Bayonet Lug?
